Choose Water Based Inks
Water based inks are gentle to babies and gentle to the earth. Green Apple Baby proudly screen prints our t-shirts with water based inks. One of the things I love about water based inks is the ink dyes the fiber which leaves the t-shirt breathable! Water based inks are a perfect compliment to organic cotton. Here are a few facts about water based inks:

1) The majority of screenprinting companies use plastisol ink because they are simple to use, inexpensive and durable. Unfortunately, and unbeknownst to the common t-shirt wearer, plastisol inks contain PVC and phthalates that destroy the environment and have been associated with many medical issues including cancer, mental disorders, and infertility. Additionally, the cleaning process for plastisol inks call for environmentally harmful, petroleum based chemicals.

2) Water based ink screenprinting contains neither PVC nor phthalates making them an environmentally friendly choice. Water based ink ingredients are non-toxic, lead-free and do not contain any heavy metals. As such, they are safe for use on infant clothing, underwear and swimsuits.

3) Unlike plastisols, water based inks contain no ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFC’s and HCFC’s, aromatic hydrocarbons or any volatile solvents.

Reduce, Recycle and Reuse
At Green Apple Baby our office is our home. In an effort to “green” our office, we have also “greened” our home. We have chosen to purchase organic products that are gentle to the environment and our bodies. Starting with all detergents-including laundry, dishwashing, and dish soap. Moving on to shampoos, conditioners, and bath soap and household cleaners. We are recycling paper, plastic and glass products. We have planted beautiful native flowers and had our soil tested by the James River Basin Partnership so we wouldn’t over fertilize our yard. As my co-workers at the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks would say “We all live downstream”. Protecting and preserving our water resources for our children and ourselves is all of our responsibility. Small changes make a big impact. At Green Apple Baby we will always be striving to implement eco-friendly practices in our lifestyle and our business. Being “green” is easy and fun!

The world is a beautiful place. Together we are making a difference.

Organic cotton is gentle to babies and gentle to the earth. Our t-shirts are unbleached natural 100% organic cotton. They are made in the U.S.A Here are a few facts about organic cotton:

1) Organic products meet stringent standards

Organic certification is the public's assurance that products have been grown and handled according to strict procedures without persistent toxic chemical inputs.

2) Organic production reduces health risks

Many EPA-approved pesticides were registered long before extensive research linked these chemicals to cancer and other diseases. Organic agriculture is one way to prevent any more of these chemicals from getting into the air, earth and water that sustain us.

3) Organic farms respect our water resources

The elimination of polluting chemicals and nitrogen leaching, done in combination with soil building, protects and conserves water resources.

4) Organic farmers build healthy soil

Soil is the foundation of the food chain. The primary focus of organic farming is to use practices that build healthy soils.

5) Organic farmers work in harmony with nature

Organic agricultural respects the balance demanded of a healthy ecosystem: wildlife is encouraged by including forage crops in rotation and by retaining fence rows, wetlands, and other natural areas.

6) Organic producers are leaders in innovative research

Organic farmers have led the way, largely at their own expense, with innovative on-farm research aimed at reducing pesticide use and minimizing agriculture's impact on the environment.

7) Organic farming helps keep rural communities healthy

USDA reported that in 1997, half of U.S. farm production came from only 2% of farms. Organic agriculture can be a lifeline for small farms because it offers an alternative market where sellers can command fair prices for crops.
